2020 feels like an easier time to call surprise cuts in NFL

NFL: Arizona Cardinals Red & White Practice Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

We are heading into the final week of training camp, or whatever this has been and it feels like we don’t know too much.

The Arizona Cardinals have already released a bevy of their offseason undrafted free agents, and the idea of the surprise cut seems like it is a bit easier to call in 2020.

While NFL reporters and media are seeing things in real time, they cannot report on them. That includes the lineups, depth charts, etc.

That means as media members on the ground begin to formulate their final 53-man roster for the Arizona Cardinals, it will be good practice to pay attention to any name that shows up or does not show up on multiple lists.

With the news on the team limited, it’ll be easy to tell if a player is on the chopping block in Kent Somers, Jess Root, and Howard Balzer all have the same “surprise” cut name off the roster. That’s because they have been at camp and have seen that maybe a player we expected to start is not in fact getting a ton of run.

It may make things a little less more surprising to call this offseason.
