Marcus Gilbert opting out per Adam Schefter

The Arizona Cardinals have their first opt out of the 2020 NFL season.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Arizona Cardinals will not have right tackle Marcus Gilbert in 2020.

Gilbert opting out may be something we could have expected, based on the signing of veteran free agent Kelvin Beachum.

The right tackle position was not a need with last year's starter Justin Murray and third round pick Josh Jones in house, but Beachum would give the Cardinals the veteran presence they sought last year as well in Jordan Mills.

Gilbert will now be unlikely to play a single game as an Arizona Cardinal in two seasons after missing all of 2019 with a knee injury.

It will be interesting to see the patience the Cardinals have with Jones, as Murray was just okay for the 2019 season and Beachum has struggled to play at a high level the last couple of years.

We probably will never see Gilbert in a uniform, even though he'll technically have been on the team for two seasons.
