As we sit here on September 1st, it was assumed by many that the backup quarterback gig was all but decided.
Not if you ask Cardinal head coach Kliff Kingsbury, however.
When speaking with reporters early Tuesday morning, the second year head coach made it clear that the job was still very much up for grabs.
Kingsbury said the Cardinals' backup quarterback hasn't yet been decided. Brett Hundley and CFL import Chris Streveler are both "talented, athletic guys."

Up until this point, it was all but assumed that Brett Hundley would once again take the reigns as Kyler Murray’s primary backup for the 2020 season. Hundley did an admirable job in the role a year ago, most notably leading Arizona to a Week 16 fourth quarter victory against rival Seattle (after Murray left the contest with an injury hamstring).
Hundley reupped with the Cardinals back on March 22nd, cementing what we assumed was another year in the role.
Not so fast.
One month earlier, the team would take a flier on former CFL standout Chris Streveler, as the 25 year old had previously led the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to the Grey Cup. Streveler is limited as a thrower but possesses a unique ability to run the football with authority.
Both quarterbacks have impressed to some degree throughout this most unusual training camp but the presence of no preseason likely hurts both candidates. An ability to separate ones self from internal competition is what made the preseason necessary for so many aspiring young players.
Now both will have to rely on limited practice reps with the offense.
For what it’s worth, Kingsbury didn’t rule out keeping three quarterbacks on the active roster later noting that he doesn’t separate the group in meetings for fear of a COVID-19 outbreak.
Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury said he has not separated his quarterbacks into separate rooms to try to prevent an outbreak if COVID-19 infilatrates the team. He said the QBs are spread out in the meeting room and they try to stay spread out on the field.

It remains entirely possible that Kingsbury names Hundley as Murray’s primary backup yet still includes the ever unique Streveler in specific offensive packages ala Taysom Hill.
Who do you think secures the backup role behind Kyler Murray? Should the Cardinals carry three active quarterbacks on their roster?
