We talked about the offensive snap count in the Cardinals win, where the offense was able to run 82 plays against one of the best defenses in the NFL.
On the flip side, an under discussed part of the Arizona Cardinals victory over the San Francisco 49ers was limiting their offensive snaps.
The Cardinals defense only faced 62 offensive plays from the 49ers, compared to 82 for the Cardinals offense.
Let’s take a look at how those defensive snaps played out.
Defensive Line
Corey Peters - 44 snaps (71%)
Jordan Phillips - 31 (50%)
Zach Allen - 31 (50%)
Angelo Blackson - 23 (37%)
Rashard Lawrence - 14 (23%)
Leko Fotu - 4 (3%)
The Cardinals had worked a lot in training camp with just two down lineman, I think that is something they want to use this year, with Devon Kennard being the third “lineman) and keeping three off ball backers on the field at a time... If they can pick things up.
Edge
Chandler Jones - 55 (89%)
Devon Kennard - 34 (55%)
Haason Reddick - 30 (48%)
Kylie Fitts - 9 (15%)
Off Ball
De’Vondre Campbell - 62 (100%)
Jordan Hicks - 62 (100%)
Isaiah Simmons - 18 (29%)
I tried to warn everyone about the Simmons learning curve, especially coming off this offseason.
Cornerback
Patrick Peterson - 61 (99%)
Byron Murphy - 60 (97%)
Dre Kirkpatrick - 20 (32%)
Not much surprise here, outside of the Cardinals love their safeties.
Safety
Budda Baker - 62 (100%)
Chris Banjo - 58 (94%)
Charles Washington - 2 (3%)
Jalen Thompson - 2 (3%)
I think if Jalen is healthy, we’ll see Banjo some still, but overall put Thompson out there healthy and he and Budda likely don’t leave the field.
Special Teams ( I only included players with 10+ snaps or special teams only)
Dennis Gardeck - 22 (79%)
Ezekiel Turner - 20 (71%)
Tanner Vallejo - 17 (61%)
D.J. Foster - 17 (61%)
Darrell Daniels - 17 (61%)
Charles Washington - 16 (57%)
Trent Sherfield - 15 (54%)
Banjo - 15 (54%)
Fitts - 13 (46%)
Kevin Peterson - 12 (43%)
Zane Gonzalez - 10 (36%)
Andy Lee - 10 (36%)
Aaron Brewer 10 (36%)
Max Garcia - 6 (21%)
