What We Learned from the Cardinals’ First Home Win of 2020

Normally I’m weary of the whole counting of eggs before they’ve hatched thing, but the Cardinal’s are 2-0 and looking at a very strong possibility they head to Dallas with 3 more wins on their belt. Look, I’m not crowning them... but...

Let’s get into it before I jinx it more.

SEAN KUGLER NEEDS MORE LOVE

No, it wasn’t the prettiest of days from the offensive line. Far from it, in fact. But if you told me down your starting center and right tackle, I would expect far worse results after having been through the buzzsaws that are the San Fran and Washington defensive line. Props to Kugler for making the most of a banged up unit.

DE’VONDRE CAMPBELL MAY BE A STEAL

I’ll fess up. I was not the biggest fan of this signing, but through 2 games Campbell is standing out among a pricey linebacker corps and importantly in today’s NFL - making plays in coverage. It’s been an underrated move thus far, and hopefully that changes.

THE PASSING GAME HAS SOME KINKS TO WORK OUT

A tough Niner’s defense and a tough Washington front notwithstanding, there’s at the very least some efficiency to be desired from the passing attack. Luckily, there’s some less than potent secondaries on the horizon to get things ironed out.

...BUT IT MIGHT JUST BE GETTING STARTED

Previous points not withstanding, we’re still in the first two weeks of a season sans a pre-season. They just dropped a 30-burger AND left several easy plays on the field. If things trend in a favorable direction, hold on to your butts - this could be fun.

PENALTY MACHINES

It’s the second week in a row now that we’ve seen some pretty sloppy play on the field. This week to the tune of 11 penalties and 97 yards (it was 9/102 last week). Fortunately the margins weren’t as close this week, but the Cardinal’s can ill afford to have such glaring issues moving forward.

KYLER MURRAY IS A SPECIAL THREAT ON THE GROUND

For the second week in a row K1 ripped off several highlight reel runs, one of which won’t even make the box score. He’s quickly proven to have a premier set of wheels among his position, and it’s been an electric show.
