Arizona Cardinals may need to play Isaiah Simmons at safety due to injuries at the position

One of the key question marks heading into this season was why Steve Keim and the Arizona Cardinals were so comfortable with their safety position.

Not because there was not talent, but instead because they seemed woefully thin at the position.

Jalen Thompson and Budda Baker are two emerging stars, but going in with Chris Banjo as your third active safety with Deionte Thompson cooling his heels as inactive just seemed like a bad plan.

Well, three games into a 2-1 start to the season and the Cardinals are shopping.

Jalen Thompson made it a couple of plays into the season before an ankle injury had sidelined him through at least this week.

Budda Baker is playing with an injury that will require surgery and Chris Banjo dealing with a hamstring issue.

Now, the Cardinals may be forced to play first round rookie Isaiah Simmons at the safety position, teamed with Deionte Thompson.

They also are shopping in the bargain bin, as they have worked out former Pro Bowler T.J. Ward, who has not been in the league since 2017.

Let’s hope a once promising start is not derailed by injuries and unpreparedness.
