With four teams left in the 2021 NFL Playoffs it becomes even more interesting to look at where those teams rank in terms of their offensive and defensive DVOA from Football Outsiders at the end of the 2020 NFL season.
Let's take a look.
Kansas City Chiefs: Offensive DVOA - 2 Defensive DVOA - 22 Overall - 6
Buffalo Bills: Offensive DVOA - 5 Defensive DVOA - 12 Overall - 4
Green Bay Packers: Offensive DVOA - 1 Defensive DVOA - 17 Overall - 3
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Offensive DVOA - 3 Defensive DVOA - 5 Overall - 2
Where were the Arizona Cardinals?
Offensive DVOA - 19 Defensive DVOA - 10 Overall - 13
The NFL is pushing teams towards being fireworks offenses. The NFL is geared towards offensive football and to be a contender, you have to be able to score points.
That was the plan when the Cardinals hired Kliff Kingsbury and drafted Kyler Murray, that they would be a dynamic offense.
Yet, it's been lackluster for the Cardinals.
What they do now is try and get to that upper echelon on offenses. Maybe you don't have to have a top five offense, but based on this year it won't hurt as four of the top five offenses according to DVOA are in the conference championship.
In fact, only the Minnesota Vikings were in the top 10 of offensive DVOA and didn't make the playoffs.
The NFL is different now, it's an offensive league. You'd expect the Cardinals to get back to that if Kingsbury is at the helm.
Right?
