One of the bigger moves to start the 2021 NFL offseason has already been announced as the Detroit Lions are trading Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for a kings ransom.
It is crazy all that the Rams are giving up, but Stafford is a good player.
However, from an individual standpoint it is interesting to compare what each has done thus far in their career against the Arizona Cardinals.
Matthew Stafford: (3-4-1) 179/288 62.15% 1,943 yards 12 touchdowns 8 interceptions 84.3 QB rating
Stafford averaged: 22/36 243 yards 1.5 touchdowns and 1 interception per game
Then you look at Goff.
Jared Goff: (7-1) 197/279 70.6% 2239 11 touchdowns 3 interceptions 103 QB rating
Goff averaged: 24/35 280 yards 1.4 touchdowns 0.4 interceptions per game
Now, Goff has been on better teams, but it is interesting to see how well he has played against the Cardinals in his eight games.
Stafford has not been bad, but he has been incredibly average. The question becomes how much better will he be in Los Angeles and what will it look like for the Rams.
Goff has lost once in his career in Arizona.
The Cardinals have never beaten Sean McVay though. So the question becomes, does the quarterback matter for the Rams and can the Cardinals continue to play well against Stafford?
Let’s see what happens, but man the Rams paid a lot to get Stafford.
