With the NFL offseason right around the corner the free agency period is coming quickly. While the big names get all of the publicity, the Arizona Cardinals won’t have a ton of money.
They will need to make some savvy moves in order to make sure they can keep pace in the uber competitive NFC West.
Here are five lesser touted free agents that could be big impact players at a discount.
Mario Edwards, DL - The Cardinals have some youth along the defensive line, but they need a veteran presence. Until Corey Peters is back in the fold, they may need a big interior defensive linemen that can help against the run and give them 35-45% of the snaps.
He was suspended for six games in 2020 for PED, so he likely will be a cheaper one year rental on a prove it type of deal.
Kenny Stills, WR - Stills is a nice wide receiver four type of presence for the Arizona Cardinals. He’d likely be the third receiver until someone on the roster steps up, but for a one to two year type of presence he’d be a cheap veteran option.
Carlos Hyde, RB - Until the Arizona Cardinals get a lead back, Hyde could be a nice veteran running back that has shown he can play consistently and carry a load if need be. He is not a dynamic runner, but a nice grinder who gets consistent yardage.
Anthony Firkser, TE - Firkser could be the move tight end the Arizona Cardinals need if they don’t bring back Dan Arnold. Firkser has improved each season and could give the Cardinals a nice backup at a discount.
Kevin King, CB - King has been the subject of many jokes because of how bad he played in the NFC Championship game. However, King is a long, lean athlete with movement skills and maybe Vance Joseph is the key to unlocking his ability. Something he has done with other young cornerbacks.
Bashaud Breeland, CB - Breeland has been up and down in his career. He needs something of stability, which he would likely get for at least one season in Arizona.
