The NFL Franchise tag will get a workout in 2021, but the Arizona Cardinals should have some options

With the 2021 NFL Franchise Tag period officially open, the question becomes how many teams will use the tag?

The Cardinals have not used the franchise tag since 2017 when they did on Chandler Jones. Before that it was Calais Campbell.

They smartly used the transition tag on Kenyan Drake last year.

Now the question is, who will get franchise or transition tagged in 2021?

  • Dak Prescott
  • Allen Robinson
  • Chris Godwin
  • Kenny Golladay
  • Aaron Jones

Robinson, Godwin and Golladay are all players the Cardinals should be interested in this offseason, so monitoring what happens to them will be important.

What about Haason Reddick? Reddick on a franchise tag will get $15.657 million in 2021, which is a big chunk of cahnge.

It also makes the most sense for the team as they have a lot of question marks at edge rusher in not only 2021, but beyond.

A couple players who played on franchise tags in 2020 that the Cardinals should monitor:

  • Matthew Judon
  • Hunter Henry
  • Joe Thuney
  • Yannick Ngakoue
  • Leonard Williams
  • Brandon Scherff

The Cardinals can get creative and get space to sign a difference maker or two, these six were on franchise tags in 2020 and likely should get to free agency this offseason.

Who would you prioritize if you are the Cardinals?
