Sporting News seven-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft has the Arizona Cardinals planning for the future

NCAA Football: Western Carolina at North Carolina Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

With the 2021 NFL Draft just 15 days away, I thought looking at mock drafts would be fun as things are ramping up and the Arizona Cardinals just made another signing.

Then as I was preparing to write this, our own Andy Kwong had a seven-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft in the hopper and it made me pause on the mock draft I saw from the Sporting News’ Vinnie Iyer who did his own seven-round mock draft.

I love to compare the “experts” to those that follow the team a bit more closely.

You’ll have to check out Andy’s a little later, but here is what the Sporting News had.

16. Arizona Cardinals (8-8)

Gregory Rousseau, EDGE, Miami (6-6, 260 pounds)

The Cardinals lost the sack impact of Haason Reddick in free agency and Chandler Jones is 31. Rousseau would be a good situational rusher now and develop into a regular starter soon.

49. Arizona Cardinals

Javonte Williams, RB, North Carolina (5-10, 220 pounds)

The Cardinals like Chase Edmonds more as a change of pace so getting Williams to replace Kenyan Drake as a power back makes a ton of sense.

160. Arizona Cardinals: Paddy Fisher, LB, Northwestern

243. Arizona Cardinals: Shaka Toney, EDGE, Penn State

247. Arizona Cardinals (from Bears through Raiders): Tre Walker, WR, San Jose State

Rousseau and Williams would be backups in year one, with sparse playing time but that would fit the long-term needs for the team.

From there, it is a fifth and two seventh round picks, not much should be expected.

What would you think?
