In the round of 16 head-to-head voting that began today, the “Hail Murray” is up against the touchdown pass by Villanova QB Daniel Smith in their loss to Delaware in April.
One of the enduring moments of the 2020 NFL season, the 43-yard Murray-to-Hopkins touchdown pass with just 0:02 on the clock gave Arizona a 32-30 win over Buffalo in Week 10. Four plays earlier, Bills WR Stefon Diggs had a 21-yard touchdown catch with 0:34 remaining, marking just the second time in 60 years that a game featured multiple go-ahead touchdown passes in the final 40 seconds of regulation.
The “Hail Murray” was named the 2020 Bridgestone Clutch Play of the Year at NFL Honors in February.
The eight quarterfinalists for “Best Play” ESPY will be announced on June 21st.
Fans will then have the opportunity to select the final four, which be unveiled on June 25th. The winner will be announced on The ESPYS on July 10th airing at 5:00 PM (Arizona time) on ABC.
