The Arizona Cardinals have signed K Matt McCrane to their practice squad. This is his third contract with the Cardinals, the team that initially signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Kansas St. in 2018.
Matt Prater shined in his Cardinals’ debut, going 1/2 in FGs and 5/5 in extra points, plus delivering a superb performance on kickoffs. He’s in good health and is expected to build on his week 1 performance this Sunday at home versus the Vikings.
With NFL practice squads having increased to 16 players, several teams like the Cardinals are electing to provide insurance at kicker and/or punter.
At Kansas St. McCrane was an All Big 12 performer where he left the outstanding legacy of being the Big 12’s 2nd all-time leader in career field goal percentage (84.6%) (57/66), which remains 7th all-time in the history of the NCAA. His career extra point percentage was 99.3% (133/134).
In the NFL, McCrane has made 8 of 12 FGs, two of which were game-winners, one for the Raiders and one for the Steelers. He is 9 for 9 on extra points, going 3 for 3 in his one regular season game for the Cardinals.
With the New York Guardians of the XFL, Matt McCrane went 8 for 8 on his field goals, and 2-2 on kicks beyond 50 yards.
Counting his most recent of NFL and XFL games, McCrane has made his last 22 kicks.
As a professional, McCrane has made 16 of 20 FGs (80%) and has made 9 of 9 extra points (100%). These percentages are quite similar to his percentages at Kansas St.
Take a look at Matt McCrane’s outstanding form and accuracy, both indoors and outdoors, at times under the elements:
