It is time... already.
Dane Brugler, one of the NFL Draft Tastemakers, dropped his first mock draft of the 2024 NFL Draft cycle and has a great first round for the Arizona Cardinals.
From The Athletic:
2. Arizona Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Ohio State
In this scenario, I have them keeping Murray (and his hefty contract) for at least one more season.
Last year, the Cardinals drafted an Ohio State offensive tackle in the top 10, and they go back to Columbus for one of the best wide receiver prospects of the last few decades. This pick would come on the 20-year anniversary of Arizona selecting Larry Fitzgerald at No. 3 in 2004, which is interesting because Harrison reminds me of a leaner version of Fitzgerald.
I feel like the reality is the Cardinals go into the offseason with the plan to keep Murray and that contract for one more year (obviously more if it works out). It allows them to be more aggressive in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft, where they can trade down, or take the player who looks like the best player in the class.
With the Houston Texans pick... Dane goes a route that I don’t mind, but I would prefer another name on the board, but that is for you to read and find out about.
Here is who Dane has the Cardinals taking:
17. Arizona Cardinals (from HOU): Jared Verse, Edge, Florida State
The Cardinals’ pass rush has been better than expected this season, but the team leader in pressures is linebacker Dennis Gardeck and there is room on the depth chart for upgrades.
With his get-off, play strength and character, Verse is an ideal fit for what Gannon is trying to build in Arizona.
I don’t think you can go wrong with Verse, and the Cardinals add two players at premium positions that is a need.
But there is a guy who goes a couple picks later who I would take with that 17th pick if I was making the call.
Take a look, I know it is behind a paywall, but Dane does great work.
